Kelly Tanigami
Director / Embalmer
Kelly Tanigami has been with Smith Funeral Home Ltd. since July, 1996. He was born in Brooks and raised in Rosemary. Kelly graduated from Rosemary High School in 1984 and later attended Medicine Hat College, Brooks Campus and Lethbridge Community College. He worked for Prins Brothers, Alpha Dairies and in Edmonton for Canada Safeway and also worked as a Massage Therapist in Calgary. Kelly is the first Japanese Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Alberta, obtaining his Funeral Director and Embalmer’s License in 1999 from Mount Royal College, Calgary. Kelly is married to Shani and together have 3 daughters and 1 son. He is serving a second term with the Brooks Bandits Jr. A Hockey Club as Director previously serving as Director, Treasurer and Secretary. Kelly was also a member of Brooks’ Safe Communities and served as a Trustee of The Brooks and District Health Foundation. He enjoys hockey in winter and golf in the summer.

Joel Cyr
Director / Embalmer
Joel Cyr has been with Smith Funeral Home Ltd. since July, 2011. Joel was born in Edmonton and grew up in Beaumont, Alberta and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. Joel enjoys playing baseball, golfing, watching hockey and baseball, and most of all spending time with his girls.

Joel Cyr

Larry Regner
Funeral Attendant
Larry Regner, a Hanna native, graduated from the University of Calgary in 1972. He served thirty-two years in the Brooks area as a teacher and administrator at Berry Creek School, Brooks Junior High School, Griffin Park School, and Rolling Hills School, retiring in June 2005. Larry then spent some time in the equipment rental industry and joined Smith Funeral Home in 2008. Larry and Linda have been married since 1974. Together they have four children, ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition to his contributions at Smith Funeral Home, travelling and family time, Larry enjoys sharing his musical talents at community events, charitable endeavors, and senior residences.

Larry Regner

Follie Post
Funeral Attendant
Follie Post came to the Brooks area in 1979 as a member of the RCMP and holds the title as longest serving RCMP Member in Brooks, serving Brooks for 23 years. Follie retired from the RCMP in 2010 and joined Smith Funeral Home Ltd. in 2015. Follie is married to Debbie Tiegs and has 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Follie has been involved with several businesses in Brooks, as well as serving on numerous Community Boards.

Follie Post
Funeral Attendant
Follie Post came to the Brooks area in 1979 as a member of the RCMP and holds the title as longest serving RCMP Member in Brooks, serving Brooks for 23 years. Follie retired from the RCMP in 2010 and joined Smith Funeral Home Ltd. in 2015. Follie is married to Debbie Tiegs and has 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Follie has been involved with several businesses in Brooks, as well as serving on numerous Community Boards.

Grant Conrad
Funeral Attendant
Grant Conrad was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan and raised in Wadena, Saskatchewan. He joined the RCMP in 1979 and once training was completed was posted to Alberta where he served in the communities of Fairview, Peace River, Provost, Brooks, Lethbridge and Redcliff. In 2010, Grant retired in Brooks after 31 years of service. Grant is married to Peggy and together they have 3 sons and 2 grandchildren. Grant started working for Smith’s Funeral Home Ltd. in 2016. Grant enjoys woodworking year round, golfing and fishing in the summer and curling in the winter.

Jim Brack was raised in Indian Head, Saskatchewan and joined the Canadian Navy in 1961. In 1970, with an honourable discharge, he then moved to Kitchener, Ontario and worked as a Maintenance Electrician. Jim later moved to Alberta in 1973 and worked in the Oil and Gas industry, until 2007. In 2007, Jim started working as a Pastoral Assistant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks, until retiring in 2019. Jim is also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He joined Smith Funeral Home in 2019. Jim and his wife Christine have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. Jim enjoys camping, golfing, fishing, and watching the Brooks Bandits.

Kallie Parson
Apprentice
Kallie Parson is proud to announce that she is the newest Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer at Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematorium. Born in Brooks, she takes great pride in serving the community she grew up in.
Kallie is currently enrolled in Mount Royal University’s Funeral Service Diploma program, while gaining hands-on experience within the funeral home. She is committed to learning every aspect of the profession and maintaining high standards of care.
Outside of her apprenticeship, Kallie values continuous learning and community involvement. She looks forward to growing within the funeral service profession and contributing to meaningful, compassionate end-of-life care.

Ron Amundson
Funeral Attendent
Ron Amundson grew up in Naicam, SK. He moved to Biggar, SK, where he was a co-owner of a grocery store. There he met and married his wife, Denise. He is the father of one son and 2 daughters. In 1997, after selling their share in the grocery store, Ron, Denise and their family moved to Brooks, AB to start up The $1 Store Plus, which was located in The Cassils Centre Mall. Together, Ron and Denise operated the store, as well as an annual Christmas Store, until the mall was closed in 2006. Ron and Denise then operated Tim Hortons until their retirement in 2020. Ron enjoys golfing, camping, and spending time with his family. He is recently a very proud grandpa of 2 little girls!

Ron Amundson
