It is with very sad and heavy hearts we, the family, announce the passing Wilfred Peter Keinick, age 73 of Brooks, Alberta on February 12th, 2026. He was a beloved husband to Marjorie for 52 years, and a loving father and grandfather to Lee (Terri), Gabe and Sophie; Adam (Nicole), Lily and Ella; Joe (Lacey), Tucker and Kessaley. Wilf will be deeply missed by his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wilf was born in Empress, Alberta on November 10, 1952. He grew up in Cavendish and attended school in Bindloss for grades 1 to 9 then took his high school grades at the Brooks Composite High School. Wilf was known for his hard work ethic, his sense of humor and devotion to his family. He loved to golf with his boys along with ice fishing in the winter. He enjoyed his time at the ice shack immensely and was always hoping to catch the big one (Walter) which he did in 2024. Wilf was a welder by trade and worked for Alberta Gas Trunkline, taught welding at Medicine Hat College (Brooks Campus) and worked for Encana for many years as a construction coordinator. Wilf loved to work on the big pipelines and enjoyed working out in the field. In 1994 Wilf was injured in a work-related accident which led him to speak about the importance of safety in the workplace. This inspired others to realize the importance of safety in all industries. This also offered Wilf the opportunity to work in the Encana office and later back in the field as a construction coordinator. Wilf enjoyed supporting his community as a Kiwanis member, umpire, time keeper for the local hockey team, and helping anyone that needed it. He enjoyed helping family and friends with his welding expertise. He was famous for fixing many boat props. He also liked watching the Brooks Bandits and became a devoted fan. Wilf always enjoyed camping and being assigned chief cook many times. His barbequed ribs were a favorite amongst everyone. Wilf and Marj loved to travel and were able to go on many trips with family and friends over the years. The highlight was always the trips to Australia to visit Adam and his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 25th, at the Heritage Convention Center at 1:00 PM. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. Donations can be made in Wilf's memory directly to the Brooks and District Health Foundation, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3.
