Virnaliza Gerodias Reid passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 11, 2026, at the age of 58. She is survived by her husband, Wes Reid, her children, Wesley and Mae Reid, her brothers Eubiel and Jerry Geordias, and her mother Eutiquia Geordias. We are deeply saddened by Virna's sudden passing, and she will forever be a light in our souls. Virnaliza was born on September 1, 1967, in Cebu City, Philippines to Eutiquia and Fortunato Gerodias. Virnaliza grew up in Cebu City with two brothers, Jerry and Eubiel. Her school classmates became dear friends, and she kept in contact with them throughout her life. She was passionate about her education and worked incredibly hard to receive her commerce degree from the University of San Jose-Recoletos in 1988. Virnaliza fulfilled her dream of moving to Canada in 1989 and lived in Rolling Hills, before moving to Brooks, where she met her husband, Wes Reid. Virna and Wes got married in Brooks on September 18, 1999. For the last 8 years, Virna was a familiar, smiling face to most at Tim Hortons. She was also an integral part to the success of her husband's business, Reid's Plumbing and Heating. Virna had her first child in 1999, Wesley, and her second child, Mae, in 2001. Virna strongly valued education for her children, both of whom later graduated from the University of Calgary. Each year when asked by her children what she wanted for Christmas, she would say "Graduate University". When her children were in sports, Virna and Wes never missed a game as they were their kids' biggest fans. Her children brought her tremendous joy, and she was incredibly proud of the people they became. Family meant everything to Virna, and she was an incredible mom and wife. Virna greatly enjoyed adventures with family. She frequently took trips to the mountains to camp, do short hikes, and chase waterfalls. Every weekend, Virna had an adventure planned. Some of her favourites were visiting her children in Calgary on weekends, picking strawberries, snow tubing, downhill karting, ziplining and shopping. Virna loved vibrant colours and would often be seen wearing her favourite colors, yellow and blue. Her faith was important to her, and she attended Saint Mary's Catholic Church. She was passionate about cooking and would feed anyone who visited her home. Virna cherished her friendships greatly and often spent time laughing and smiling with friends around town. Virna continuously made an effort to stay connected with all of her friends and family, whether they were in Brooks or across the world. She had the unique ability to make new friends wherever she went. Virna will be remembered for being unapologetically herself. She wore her emotions on her sleeve, was strong-willed, determined, and incredibly brave. No matter the kind of day Virna was having, her infectious smile would always come out when she ran into any friends or family. Virna's friendliness, care, and energy will be characteristics hard to forget. Virna's Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 pm in the Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Brooks. If there are any memories that would like to be shared, please do so on Virna's Facebook account or in the guestbook entry on the Smith Funeral Home website. Please bring any tributes in memory of Virna to her Celebration of life on March 21 or contact her husband or children if there are any afterwards. Love you forever Mom, Wife, Sister, and Daughter.
