Thomas Albert
Rice
Sep 11, 1940 — Nov 29, 2025
Brooks
Thomas Albert (Terry) passed away at the Medicine Hat Hospital, Medicine Hat, Alberta on November 29, 2025, at the age of 85 years after a courageous 9-month battle with ailing health. Terry was born on September 11, 1940, in Ormstown, Quebec. He leaves to mourn his sons, Thomas Andrew (Andy), Kenneth John (Ken) and his wife Tina, daughters Nichole, Natasha and Corrina (Geof) and their families and Ronald Frank (Ron) and his wife Liana and their son Dane and daughter Matea; brother Bob and his wife Brenda; sisters-in-law Susan and Eva. In addition, he leaves to mourn nephews and nieces Stacey (Kelly), Jason (Cara), George (Natalie) Richard (June), Jenny, Jane (Russ), John and Nancy as well as several great grandchildren and cousins. Finally, he leaves to mourn special friends in Brooks, Alberta, Isabel, Murray and Eileen, Tug and Lorraine. Terry was predeceased by his wife Janet (MacFarlane), brother Dawson, and sister-in-law Carol. Terry grew up on a farm just outside Ormstown, Quebec on the Lower Concession Road. He started working at the age of 14 pulling a Port-Away combine with an International Tractor for Green Giant. Later he worked on his own farm growing forage and cash crops for Green Giant; blowing snow for the Village of Ormstown and for local residents; in construction; as a truck driver; painter; and as a catering helper for Janet (weddings, receptions and at the Ormstown fair dining hall). He took over the family farm in the early 60's and built a new house on the remains of the family house that had burned down. He used lumber from Andrew Macfarlane's farm to build the house and local stone from around Ormstown to build a large fireplace which was used to hang stockings for many years. He was a big man at 6 foot 4 inches in height (at the age of 14 no less) and even though he had a large bark he was a gentle man. After Janet passed away, Terry sold the farm and moved out west to Brooks, to live with Andy and to be near his other boys. He worked as a painter, until his health stopped him. He made many friends in Brooks and enjoyed playing cards and bocce ball with members of the Prairie Pioneers. While in Brooks, he met and married Isabel Louks. Although the marriage did not last, they remained very close friends until his death. Special thanks to Bob and Brenda Rice and Murray and Eileen McLaughlin, who helped Andy with Dad's support while he was in care. As per Terry's wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers or donations, please consider a random act of kindness to a stranger.
