It is with great sorrow we announce the death of Shig Nakamura at the age of 86, who passed away peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary with this children by his side on Friday, November 17 th , 2017. Shig was born in Port Haney, British Columbia on September 16 th , 1931 to Yutaka and Fujiyo Nakamura. The family moved from British Columbia to Southern Alberta, where they eventually purchased a farm in Rosemary. Shig worked at the Trans-Canada Service Station on the #1 Highway from 1955-1957 and then at the Tune Up Service with Roy Yokoyama. Shig and family moved to the farm in 1963 and with brother Dennis continued farming until 1981, when the farm was sold. Shig was involved in establishing the Bassano Growers Co-Operative. He loved to travel and over the years visited the Philippines, Mexico, Holland and Japan for work and pleasure, as well as made numerous trips across Canada. In his later years, Shig greatly enjoyed the many friendships made in the Airstream community while attending rallies in Canada and the US. Having coffee and visiting with friends and family was a favorite pastime. Shig was predeceased by wife Lillian (nee Uchida) and wife Tomoe (nee Hironaka), brother Henry, brother-in-law Hideo Ono and nephew Christopher Yokoyama. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Rob) from Ottawa, Gayle (Matt) and Naomi (Mike) from Calgary and grandchildren of whom he was especially proud - Kiyomi, Kimiko and Kael. He will be lovingly remembered by his 2 brothers Mas (Joan) and Dennis (Gloria), 3 sisters Marie Ono, Nora (Karl) Bremerman, Joyce (Roy) Yokoyama and sister-in-law Gayle Nakamura, close family friend Kaz (Rumiko) Yamashiro and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the medical and health care staff at the Foothills Medical Centre and Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary for their attentive and respectful care. As per Shig's wishes, no service nor visitation will be held. A prayer and thoughts for his eternal rest are welcome by all who knew and appreciated him. In memory of Shig, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to STARS, Suite 100, 1519 – 35 th Avenue East, Edmonton International Airport   T9E 0V6.

Cremation is entrusted to Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematorium, Brooks.
