Shelby Regine Martens, born May 22, 1993 went to be in the loving arms of her creator while surrounded by loved ones in Calgary, Alberta on the morning of December 17, 2025.

Shelby was born in Taber, Alberta. She grew up in Tilley where she attended elementary and junior high school. After graduating from Brooks Composite High School in 2011 she took a break to work and travel. Shelby then pursued a business degree from SAIT where continued her education. And moved to Calgary full time in 2014.

Shelby was predeceased by her grandparents; Norman Wester, Jeannie Wester, Edna Martens and Frank Martens; aunts and uncles, Lorna Warwick(Michael), Denise Brugos (Emil), Frances Seipert (Rueben) and many beloved cousins.

Shelby is survived by her mother, Susan Wester; father, Colin Martens; sister Janine Martens (Morgan); aunts, Valerie Martens-McHugh, Cindy Wester-Dahl (Michael); uncles, Lyndon Wester (Shirley), Randy Wester (Laurie); cousins, Erin Warwick, Sean Warwick, Landon McHugh (Sarah), Cassie Tollin (Cameron), Rachelle Undershute (Jeremy), Mariah Stephens (Scott), Lauren Dahl, Alec Dahl, and Aimee Dahl; many cherished family members.

At the age of 5 Shelby began playing hockey where she was often the only girl on the team. This motivated her to work hard to be the best. Which turned her into a standout hockey player in her teens and into adulthood. While in high school Shelby was a member of the golf team where her skillful success turned into a lifelong passion. Enjoying many golf trips in her life, playing a new course was always her favourite. Her first job was at the Taber Golf Course.

Shelby spent summers at her gramma's house with her sister and cousins in Taber. Here is where her love of rhubarb grew as gramma baked her a rhubarb cake every visit. Growing up Shelby loved playing in the yard and riding dirt bikes with her sister and going on fishing and camping trips. Her love of the outdoors made her enjoy every possible adventure from skating on mountain lakes, snowboarding, and taking her bike out on the city paths.

Being outdoors in the sunshine was where she loved to be.

Shelby's love for the outdoors translated into a love for plants indoors. Having many houseplants through her life, her long lived collection proved how well she cared for them. Shelby had a love for all animals especially cats.

She was the light at every gathering, a friend to many, always smiling and trying to get you to laugh. Shelby was an avid movie watcher and lover of reality television which gave her an endless supply of funny inside jokes. Her love of watching football grew from college and NFL games to hosting her own fantasy league. Her social life gave her many friends far and wide who she cherished and always talked about.

The untimely end of her young life has left us all with heavy hearts and a piece missing, until we meet again.

A Celebration for Shelby's life will be announced early 2026.
