We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Russell John Timmons. Dad passed away peacefully on September 4th, in Calgary, at the age of 89, with family by his side. Dad was born on July 13th, 1936 and raised in Carnduff, Saskatchewan. Inspired by his love of horses, he went to work on a ranch after finishing his education. Never one to let opportunity slip by and lured by the offer of adventure and big bucks he transitioned from a rancher to a drilling rig hand, and soon after to an electric wireline operator with McCullough Tool, a move that paved the way for an incredible five-decade long career in the oil and gas services industry, with a few side entrepreneurial ventures along the way. Though McCullough Tool was merged and acquired numerous times over the years, Dad's strong work ethic, vast industry knowledge, and his unwavering commitment to his employer, ensured his continued employment during these times. In 1957 Dad met Martha Geisel, a pretty, hardworking farmgirl turned banker, from Steelman, Saskatchewan. It was love at first sight. They formalized their courtship through marriage the following year, and then their exciting journey began. Mom and Dad's 67 years of togetherness took them from Estevan, Saskatchewan to Calgary in 1969, and from Calgary to Brooks, in 1972 with Dad's career and many friendships advancing along the way. Though still young in spirit, Dad saw fit to finally retire at age 67 and devote his time to family, fun, and community. After making their home in Brooks for 51 years, Mom and Dad moved back to Calgary in 2023. Dad had many gifts. With his love of woodworking, his children and grandchildren have a cedar deacon bench crafted by Grandpa Timmons, in their homes. Dad's passion for golf left an uncountable number of golf balls in the rough and water hazards. Finally, Dad's commitment to community left many local organizations, including the Brooks Knights of Columbus Council #5116, and all the minor sports teams that he coached, managed, and cheered his five kids on in a better place. Dad will be forever remembered by his loving wife Martha, sister Peggy, children Tim (Sharon), Jackie, Ron (Angie), Tom (Tammy), and Kelly (Cori), 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and an abundance of relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Dad at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Brooks at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16th. Rev. Eligio Canete Celebrant. A graveside service will be held at Brooks Cemetery. We would like to express our gratitude to the entire staff, doctors and nurses, at Venvi Evergreen, for the wonderful and compassionate care Dad was provided. If desired, donations in memory of Russell John Timmons can be made to Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories
God speed Dad … we love you and will miss you!
