Peter Paetkau was born on October 28, 1930, in Chortitza, in southern Ukraine. He passed away on April 4, 2026, at the age of 95. Peter lived a full and meaningful life, grounded in hard work, resilience, and a deep love for his family. Over the years, he built lasting relationships and was known for his steady presence, kindness, and quiet strength. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Monica Curle of Calgary and Rosalie Dale (Randy) of Big Stone; his son, Mark Paetkau of Bassano and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Matthew Dale (Bonnie) and their children Mason and Lincoln; Crystal Theriault (Daniel) and their children Abby, Nate, Pete, and Sam; and Danielle Paetkau. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Penner of Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce (Bray) Paetkau, on November 22, 1999; his father, Peter Paetkau; his mother, Elizabeth Dyck; his stepfather, Aaron Dyck; his brothers, John Paetkau and Henry Paetkau; his son-in-law, Ron Curle; and his great-grandson, Carter Dale. Peter found great joy in fishing, hunting, travelling, and, above all, spending time with his family. His legacy lives on through the generations who knew and loved him. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday, April 14, at Mountain View Cemetery in Calgary. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bassano Elks Hall. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share in remembering Peter's life. Peter will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
