Norman Clarence Materi of Brooks, beloved husband of Carol, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday January 24, 2018 at the age of 70 years. Norm was born in Leader, SK on May 30, 1947 and grew up in Fox Valley, SK. His Education took him to Notre Dame in Wilcox, SK where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Rice. They were married on September 6, 1969 and began their family in January of 1970 when Michael was born. They lived in Regina until the fall of 1970 when they moved to Estevan, SK. From there they moved to Kindersley in the fall of 1972 where they remained for 20 years and expanded their family by 2. Michele was born in August of 1973 and Angela in March of 1976. January of 1993 took them to Leader, SK where they bought the Leader Esso Service station. After 20 wonderful years, countless friendships and memories made, they retired and made their home in Brooks, AB.
Norm's passion was curling and enjoyed the game and fellowship up until his retirement. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting ducks and geese with his friends and son. He was an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, Calgary Flames fan and most recently Brooks Bandits fan. Norm had a special way of walking into a room and filling it with friendship and laughter. He was blessed with the gift of the gab and could talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. He made a new friend everywhere he went and always remembered your name. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Most of all Norm loved being a husband, father, and grandfather and took great pleasure in family get-togethers and supporting his loved ones in their endeavors.
Norm will be forever loved by his wife Carol of 48 years. He will be greatly missed by his 3 children Mike Materi (Tracey) and their children Jordan, Brooke and Connor from Brooks, Michele Labrie (Wayne) and their children Dakota (Aaron) and Rylan from Grande Prairie, and Angela Materi and her daughter Caitlin from Leader, SK.
Norm is also survived by his brother Merl Materi (Gloria), sister Bev Erman (Blair), sister Yvonne Lerner (Barry), brother Tom Materi (Donna), brother Kim Materi (Arlene), brother Brad Materi, brother Gerard Materi (Debbie), sister-in-law Carol Kopec-Materi, sister-in-law Lillian Forman (Lloyd), brother-in-law Currell Clarey and brother-in-law Gordon Rice (Elaine) as well as his much loved nieces and nephews.
Norm was predeceased by his younger brother Tim Materi (1973), father Peter Sr. Materi (1988), mother Ann (2009) and older brother Peter (2012). He is also predeceased by his father-in-law Orval Rice, mother-in-law Dora Rice and 4 sisters-in-law Ilene Percy, Madge Rice, Dorothy Clarey and Gladys Turnbull.
