Murray Arthur Briant of Brooks, beloved husband of Dolores (Dolly) Somosot, passed away in Medicine Hat on Monday, October 4 th , 2021 at the age of 75 years. Murray was born in Whitewood, Saskatchewan on June 1 st , 1946 to Charles and Doreen Briant.
He graduated from the Indian Head School in 1965 then attended the University of Guelph, where he received his Ontario Diploma in Horticulture. Murray worked in the Department of Forestry at the University of Winnipeg and Sault St. Marie, Ontario from 1967 – 1971, then at the Horticultural Research Station in Brooks from 1971 – 2002. Following his retirement he worked part time in the Garden Centre and Hardware sections of Walmart.
Murray enjoyed walking, hiking, antiques, coins, history, steam engines, reading and genealogy. He truly enjoyed his time with his friend Tug Maruno, eating sushi and sashimi and visiting with his friends.
Murray was a member of the Calgary Numismatic Society, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.
He volunteered for People Helping People and Seniors Outreach (Meals on Wheels).
Murray will be fondly remembered for his love or plants and horticulture.
Murray travelled extensively, visiting China, Philippines, Singapore and Australia as well as the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
He also helped publish an article in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research and published articles in the Numismatic International Bulletin.
Murray was predeceased by his parents Charles and Doreen Briant and siblings, Keith William Briant and Carol Joyce Dempsey.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dolly; children from a previous marriage, Aaron Briant and Delcie Keeping; siblings, Sharon (Mike), Wayne (Brenda) and Lorie; one grandson and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Brooks Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Garth Everett officiating.

Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematorium, Brooks
