It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Merrick John Stone announces his passing at The Brooks Hospital on January 23, 2025 at the age of 81, with loved ones by his side.

Merrick was our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and dear friend to many.

Merrick was born on October 8, 1943 in Femme, Newfoundland.  He began his career as a fisherman at the age of 18, where he remained until the age of 72.  Merrick had a love for the water like no other and had a lifetime of stories about it that he loved to share with everyone.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife of 58 years; Georgina Stone; children, Glenn Stone (Rebecca) of Grand Bank, Paula Saint (Charlie) of Brooks, and Stephen Stone (Lisa) of Brooks; 10 grandchildren, Shannen (Rachel), Brandon (Becca), Shayne, Isabella, Stephen, Caleigh (Brady), Alexie, Ashton, Jordyn, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Archie, and Rowan; brothers-in-law, Lester Bungay (Viola), Jim Bungay (Jane), Harold Bungay (Marion), Doug Bungay (Sharon), Dave Bungay (Brenda), Hughie Bungay (Gail), and Ron Bungay; sisters-in-law, Marina Loveless, Shirley Rideout, and Meta Bungay; uncle Allister Stone (Helen); special cousins that were like brothers, Bill Bryne (Beatrice), and William Kearley (Edith); plus a large circle of extended family and friends.

Merrick was predeceased by parents, John and Elizabeth Stone; parents-in-law, Archibald and Francis Bungay; special cousin Roland Fizzard; brothers-in-law, Rex Bungay, Ambrose Loveless,and Sidney Rideout; nephews, Justin Bungay and Corey Bungay; cousin, Glenn Stone.

Special thanks to the staff at The Brooks Hospital and Smith Funeral Home over the past few days, and to everyone that has reached out during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. Esther Crews officiating.
