Today, we gather to honour and celebrate the life of Margaret Caroline Doble, a woman whose kindness, strength, and unforgettable smile touched everyone she met.
Margaret was born on May 16th, 1936, in the small town of Trochu, Alberta. Her early years on the prairies shaped her into the hardworking, compassionate, and resilient woman we all came to know and love.
Margaret married the love of her life, Bob Doble, and together they began their life in Rainier, a small farming community outside of Brooks. There, they raised their two sons, Randy and Shawn, while working side by side on their dairy farm. Margaret was the heart of that farm — helping Bob, supporting her boys, and doing whatever needed to be done. She was never afraid of hard work, and she carried that strength with her throughout her life.
In 1997, due to difficult economic times, the family made the tough decision to sell the farm. Margaret and Bob moved to their acreage on Cassils Road, just east of Brooks. Margaret then took a job in the kitchen at the Brooks Health Centre, where she brought the same dedication, warmth, and care that she had always shown at home. She worked there until illness forced her to retire — a difficult moment for someone who loved to stay active and help others.
Margaret later moved to the Lake Newell Lodge with Bob, and eventually to Sunrise Gardens when her health required permanent care. Through every transition, her spirit remained gentle, loving, and full of grace.
Margaret will always be remembered for her amazing smile — a smile that could light up a room and lift the spirits of anyone near her. She had a gift for connecting with people. It didn't matter where she was; she either knew someone or made a new friend within minutes. She loved people, and people loved her right back.
She enjoyed playing board games and card games, and yes — she was known to cheat once in a while, which always brought laughter and made the games even more memorable.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, Randy and Shawn, and her four grandchildren — Shaelin, Zachary, Elyse, and Julia — who were a huge part of her life and brought her endless joy. Her love for her family was unwavering, and her pride in them was clear to anyone who knew her.
Margaret will be deeply missed — her spirit, her kindness, and especially her smile that truly lit up the world. But her legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and in every life she touched with her warmth and generosity.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 15th at 2:00 pm, led by Rev. John Theiss.
Though we feel the weight of her absence, we also feel the blessing of having loved her. Margaret will be truly missed, but her smile — that beautiful, unforgettable smile — will live on through all of us.
