Larry Verner Jasperson was born July 21, 1943, in Nanaimo while his father was serving in the Canadian military during the war. He grew up in Tilley, Alberta and spent most of his life in southern Alberta, with a few important years in Kitimat, BC. Larry met his wife Carol Bergum while attending the Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute. While Carol trained as a nurse in Edmonton, Larry worked at Alcan in Kitimat and made the long drives back to see her whenever he could. They married in 1969 and built a life together that lasted 57 years. In 1977, Larry and Carol moved back to Alberta with their children, Theresa and Timothy. Larry worked as a heavy-duty mechanic for PanCanadian until retiring in 1998, though he liked to joke that he "hadn't worked since." Together they built a home and farm near Tilley from bare prairie land, planting trees, raising animals, growing huge gardens, and always finding another project that needed doing. Larry was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving on council and teaching Sunday school and confirmation over the years. Larry loved reading, pipe smoking, conversations with strangers, and staying home more than travelling, though he was always supportive of Carol's adventures. He could be opinionated, stubborn, independent, and very sure of his own views, but he was also hardworking, dependable, and deeply committed to the life he and Carol built together. He is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Theresa Patenaude and husband Tony and their children Oliver and Lilly; son Timothy Jasperson and wife Milena and their daughters Mariana and Juliana; brother Norman Jasperson and wife Renate; sister Audrey Flatla and husband Raymond; brother-in-law Terry Hagen and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Niels and Lilly Jasperson. Larry lived a practical life shaped by hard work, faith, routine, family, and the prairie land he loved. The funeral will be at the Heritage Inn and Convention Centre, Brooks on June 19 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca/en/ or to Canadian Lewy Body Dementia research at https://www.canadianlbdinfo.ca
