Karen Lee Powell - Kuiper of Brooks, passed away in Brooks on Wednesday, October 10 ^th , 2018 at the age of 72 years. Karen was born in Hanna, Alberta on June 8 ^th , 1946 to Frank and Mary Powell. She was a well-known local businesswoman and entrepreneur. After completing hairdressing school in Calgary, Karen opened her first salon Brooks, located in her sister and brother-in-law Murry and Richard Rust's garage. From there the Golden Comb Beauty Salon was created. Karen was successful in numerous other business ventures including Peggy Sue's Diner, Tel Star and Tillibrook. She was well known for her outgoing and friendly personality. Everyone who knew her would say she was hardworking, determined and had a huge personality. Karen was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Powell and sister Murry Rust. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Christopher John Simpson and his wife Sandra of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Shanna Lee Simpson of Brooks, Murray Simpson and wife Linda of Brooks and honorary daughter, Sherraine Crapo and her husband Kerry of Brooks; grandchildren, Jessica, Julianne, Kole, Layne, Hunter and Riley; brother John Powell and his wife Irene; brother-in-law Richard Rust; step-siblings, Dick Pahl and his wife Aline and Mary-Rose Pahl and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 16 ^th at 11:00 AM from Brooks Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Garth Everett officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery.
