Joyce Darlene Nicholls, RN (nee Plant) of Brooks, slipped away peacefully at the Brooks Health Centre on Tuesday, February 14 ^th , 2023, after a lengthy illness. She was 70. Joyce is survived by her husband Mark; their daughters Lindsae and Jillian (Ryan) both of Calgary; sister, Betty (Blythe) Giles of Medicine Hat, Alberta; brother, Robert Plant of Calgary and 2 grandsons, Seth and Levi. Joyce was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on October 15 ^th , 1952, and moved to Scandia with her family in 1954. She attended Scandia, Alcoma and Brooks schools, graduated from Brooks Composite High School and completed her Registered Nurse training at Medicine Hat College. Joyce was an avid reader, gardener and homemaker. She loved animals and always had a pet around the house. While overseas, Joyce had a dog that daily got into trouble chasing the neighborhood children. He wouldn't obey commands. It wasn't until later that she discovered that the dog only understood French! She had infinite tolerance for her pets, especially her naughty Basset Hound "Cactus". Joyce cultivated many hobbies; including needlework, genealogy, and gardening, all supported by Martha Stewart. She also kept busy with Church activities, 4H and Comact. Joyce had special talents such as being a good judge of character, being genuine, frank, honest, patient, respectful, feminine, loyal and empathetic. She was a devoted Mom and true friend. She enjoyed good health all her life until the onset of her final illness. A special thanks to all of those who cared for Joyce in Sunrise Gardens over the years and at Unit A at the hospital. Joyce and Mark were sealed for eternity at the Alberta Temple in 1978.
