John (Jack)
Edwin Fowler
Aug 31, 1926 — May 5, 2022
Brooks
It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Fowler announce his passing at the Brooks Hospital on Thursday May 05, 2022 at the age of 95 years. Jack had spent the last 12 years of his life at Newbrook Lodge, where he received wonderful care and attention by the compassionate staff. He never met a person he didn't like and was as kind and respected as a man could be. A firm hand shake or a hug and a smile was special to Dad and was given and received in equal measure. Jack was born and raised on August 31, 1926 in Halkirk, Alberta where farming was his passion. Jack and Helen raised a family, formed tremendous lifelong friendships in the area and joined and supported many organizations such as the Elks and Royal Purple. On July 1, 1968 they packed up lock, stock and barrel and moved to the bright lights of Brooks. At the age of 40, Jack made a decision to enter the world of retail with his brother Harry in Brooks. Dad took to this new vocation of selling Western Wear and tack like he'd done it all his life. His personality and easy going manner were a perfect fit with Brother Harry's style and they forged a lifelong friendship of mutual respect. Both Mom and Dad built friendships in the community that existed until the end of both their lives. Farmer, rancher, teacher, baker he treated everyone equally and fairly. The store with the red door was sold in December of 2000 and Dad turned his attention to helping others with odd jobs such as painting and lawn care. Dad worked hard but always found time for his kids and gatherings with family and friends. With some free time on his hands, he and Mom were able to take some great trips to Arizona, California, and Las Vegas with very close friends. There was always a dance on Saturday nights, card games and bingo during the week. Dad was a lifelong member of The Elks and took great pride in it. In July 2010, Mom and Dad moved into the Newbrook Lodge in Brooks, where Dad became their biggest advocate, he absolutely loved living there and took pride in getting to know everyone, both staff and residents. Jack was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 21, (almost 22) great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. They all brought great joy to him. Each held a special place in his heart and they will all treasure many fond memories of their time spent with Grandpa Jack. Dad also had special relationships with his nieces and nephews and was revered as the "Favorite Uncle". He made a point of staying in touch with them and enjoyed hearing about their lives and exploits. Jack was predeceased by Helen, his loving wife of 54 years and all of his siblings except Alice, who resides in Okotoks. He is survived by his 7 children, including Donna (Ken) Godberson of Stettler, Wayne (Debbie) Fowler of Brooks, Wendy (Cy) Nelson of Benalto, Marvin (Brenda) Fowler of Nanton, Neil (Evey) Fowler of Strathmore, Rhonda McGruther of Brooks and Tammy Fowler of Brooks. We would like to thank the staff at The Newbrook Lodge for their care and compassion that they have shown Dad through all of his time there, as well as the Staff at Sub-Acute at the Brooks Hospital who were all angels to us these last few weeks. Jack's Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 16 at 1:00 PM from the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre in Brooks. Lunch and fellowship to follow. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Newbrook Lodge, c/o Newell Foundation, 500-3 Street East, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1P6 or Brooks and District Health Foundation for Sub Acute Unit, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3 in Jack's name.
