Medicine Hat
Jehu Curtis Royer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on November 22 in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 90 years. Curt was born on October 21, 1928 at Bassano, Alberta, the 3 rd child of Jehu and June Royer. He is preceded by his parents and three brothers, Philip, David and Max. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Dolores Royer, his children Kent (Brenda), Randal (Caroline), and Greg (Kathleen); three grandchildren – Tellisa (James) Cairns, Curtis (Karla) Royer and Landon (Katelyn) Royer; three great grandchildren Elias, Liana and Jaine Cairns; his brother Don (Elaine) and his two sisters Kay Goudie and Betty (Arnie) Lerch and his many nieces and nephews. Curt took over the family farm in Gem in 1960 and farmed until 1985 when he and Dorry moved to Calgary. He soon found a job at the Grain Academy on the Calgary Stampede Grounds where he worked for 17 years. He often said "the only thing better than spending your life doing what you love is being able to tell others about it"! Curt was known as a patient and loving father. Family and friends were always welcome and he and Dorry always loved having visitors and spending time visiting or playing cards. In his retirement years Curt loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Curt fully retired from the Grain Academy they moved to Medicine Hat in 2012, to invest in the lives of their family, especially their great grandchildren. Curt loved God, family, friends and life. He enjoyed laughing and couldn't get enough of time spent with people, which gave him an excuse to curl, rodeo, play cards, volunteer in different church outreach roles, and help his sons, from building and renovating their houses to supervising their businesses when needed. He enjoyed being outdoors and was always ready to go fishing or hunting with family and friends or to take his daily walk up Nose Hill with his grandkids. He served as an Elder in the Gem Presbyterian Church and was active in the Good Shepherd Church they attended in Calgary. He read his Bible daily. Curt served the Gem community through participation on many boards and committees. He participated in the community plays. If asked to help in some capacity he always welcomed the opportunity. The family wants to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan Society Southridge Village in Medicine Hat for their faithful service and professional care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 30 th , 2018 at 2:00 PM from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Peter Baek officiating. Interment at Bassano Cemetery.
