James Stewart Miller of Brooks, formerly of Gem and beloved husband of Marjorie Miller, passed away at the Brooks Health Center on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at the age of 97 years. Jim was born on October 7th, 1919 in Wilberforce, ON. to parents George and Melissa Miller. He worked for the Wilberforce Veneer Factory and also worked in the Northern Ontario bush for the Ontario Forestry industry. In 1967, Jim moved to Toronto to work with troubled teens in a halfway house. Here he met his wife-to-be, Marjorie Topp, who worked at the Anglican Church next door, they were married on October 7th 1967 at Little Trinity Anglican Church in Toronto. They moved back to Wilberforce and lived in his childhood home. From 1967-1977, Jim went to trade school for upholstery in Kitchener, ON. and also to Toronto for furniture making and refinishing. Two kids were born in this time, Pamela in 1969 and Craig in 1972. In July of 1977, they moved to Gem, where he continued his work with upholstery and the Gideon's. At the age of 62, Jim overcame a life struggle with stuttering after much hard work and a program at the University of Alberta. He reported the weather in Gem twice daily to Environment for 20 years, until he was 90 years of age. Jim loved to read and write poetry, watch baseball, play the drums, and his many dogs he had through his life. He also enjoyed and loved his grandchildren. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor and his many sayings. "Don't take any wooden nickels" was one of his favorites. Jim was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Miller of Brooks; his daughter Pamela (Tim) Norton of Rosemary and son Craig Miller of Brooks; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in Gem MB. Mennonite Church on Thursday, June 15th at 2:00 PM. Luncheon to follow at the Gem Community Hall.

Cremation is entrusted to Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematorium, Brooks.
