Eleanor Carol
Georgina Anderson
May 7, 1938 — Jul 30, 2026
Brooks
Eleanor Carol Georgina Anderson (nee Gilroy) passed away peacefully at her home in Brooks, Alberta, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the age of 88 years. Carol was born on May 7, 1938, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Charles and Ruth Gilroy. At the age of 12, she moved with her parents and siblings to Brooks, where her parents opened a ladies' fashion store, Carol's Fashions named in her honor. Following high school, Carol moved to Calgary to pursue her nursing education at Calgary General Hospital, earning her designation as a Registered Nurse. She returned to Brooks, where she devoted many years to caring for others at The Brooks Hospital. As Head Nurse of B Ward, she was respected for her leadership and compassion. She also taught prenatal classes, helping many young families begin their own journeys. Carol married the love of her life, Ronald C. Anderson, and together they made their home in Scandia. In 1965, they moved to Brooks with their young family, where they built a life filled with love, faith, and community. After retiring from nursing, Carol continued serving others as an Educational Assistant at both Central and Eastbrook Elementary Schools. Throughout her life, Carol generously gave her time and talents to many organizations. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Lutheran Church Women (LCW), Beta Sigma Phi, and the local curling community. Genealogy became one of her greatest passions. In 1980, she was instrumental in establishing a Genealogy Beginner Class, inspiring many others to explore their family histories. She also served in leadership roles as president at both the local and provincial levels. One of her favorite pastimes was travelling throughout Alberta, documenting and mapping historic cemeteries with fellow members, preserving pieces of the province's history for future generations. Carol and Ron treasured their morning coffee dates with friends at A&W, where laughter and conversation were always plentiful. She will be remembered for her joyful laugh, radiant smile, love of board games, and the unforgettable skits she delighted in performing with her children and grandchildren. Above all else, Carol cherished her family. She created a lifetime of treasured memories through family dinners, birthday celebrations, holidays, and countless moments spent together. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved, and her unwavering love for her family was evident in everything she did. Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ronald C. Anderson, in 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters: Karen Rath (Kelly), and their sons, Lucas and Eric; Charlene Anderson, and her children, Larissa Ongoma and her children Selah and Midori; Kristin Ramer (Jeremy), and their children, Evangeline, Ezra; Elise Bates (Caleb) and their children Havilah and Zev; Charis, Micah, and Eden; and Shannon Brandt, and her sons, Evan and Madison. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Lorraine, and her sister-in-law, Elaine Murphy, along with many extended family members and dear friends. In keeping with Carol's wishes, a private family service will be held. Carol's laughter, kindness, and beautiful smile were the glue that held her family together. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her forever.
