Edna Marie Ferguson (nee Specht) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Douglas Ferguson, passed away peacefully in her sleep, in Medicine Hat on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at the age of 98 years. Edna was born on the family farm near Burstall, Alberta on April 27th, 1927, where she was raised. She received her schooling in a one room schoolhouse. Edna ventured out to work at an early age, working at the Empress Hospital, where she met Doug Ferguson, and they were married 1946. After several years living in Acadia Valley, Alberta they ventured to Brooks, where they continued to work and raise their family. Over the years, Edna worked in several retail businesses in Brooks, which she enjoyed. She volunteered at the United Church Thrift Shop for many years, which we lovingly called the UC Boutique, always enjoying the fellowship of all the volunteers. Edna was a founding member of The Brooks Oil Wives and a lifetime member of Brooks United Church. She enjoyed cooking, camping, travelling, dancing, curling, bowling and playing cards. Edna was an amazing mother, grandmother and friend, her door to her home waws always open for any family or friend, those visiting could always find a good meal. Along the way she moved into the Newbrook Lodge, where she loved all the activities and the friendly staff and residents. The family would like to thank everyone at The Lodge, who made these years memorable for Mom. She was predeceased by her husband Doug; sisters, Helene, Margaret and Evelyn; brother Rudy and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Edna is survived by children, Maxine and her husband Ralf, Deborah and her husband George, Allen and his wife Larrisa; grandchildren, Marcy (Tony), Heidi (Lee), Dallas (Taryn), Alana (James), Kent, Julia and Raisa; great grandchildren, George, Dylan, Kate (Jeremy), Daniel (Claire); great, great grandchildren, Chloe and Teddy and several nieces and nephews and their families. The family wishes to thank Dr. T. Muller and staff, Newbrook Lodge staff, Home Care Services and the staff at Medicine Hat Community Care Centre for their tremendous care of Edna in her later life. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Acadia Valley, with interment in the family plot.
