Medicine Hat
Dwain Allan Cowan of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Constance Cowan, passed away in Medicine Hat on Friday, July 8 th , 2022 at the age of 69 years. Dwain was born in Bassano on September 26 th , 1952, the son of Frank and Ella Cowan. He grew up in Countess and Gem, then later settled in Bassano. As a young man, he owned Dwain's Sporting Goods. He then moved to Calgary to become a Lather, where he met the love of his life, Connie, from the moment Dwain saw her, he knew she was the one. They were married on November 18 th , 1978 in Drumheller, Alberta. In 1981, their daughter Tricia was born and soon after Dwain accepted a job with the EID as a Ditch Rider. The family moved back to Gem, where they welcomed their 2 nd daughter Gena in 1984. Dwain was in a serious accident at work following her birth and could no longer Ditch Ride, so they moved back to Bassano, where he became the Headworks Supervisor of the Bassano Dam, otherwise known as the "Dam Boss". From that point on, Bassano is where they called home. Dwain enjoyed golfing, hunting, and bringing home "track soup", playing cards with friends, camping and traveling with Connie. In 1994, Connie was diagnosed with cancer. With this diagnosis, a quick decision was made for a family trip to Disneyland. Dwain stepped up further than ever before, becoming the caregiver, while maintaining the role of dad and working. He made sure his girls knew how to change a tire, change oil and be independent, all while keeping up a home, and doing the "mom" jobs. After Connie passed, Dwain, bought another Harley and started to ride again. He met his friend, Margaret Pearce on this journey. They rode countless miles, making memories together, and enjoying 13 years of friendship. Dwain moved to Medicine Hat in 2011. He loved his yard, and had a heck of a green thumb. His dog Ben, was never far from his side. Dwain was predeceased by both his parents, and his soul mate Connie. He is survived by his daughters, Tricia (Cody) and Gena (James); grandchildren, Olin, Easton and Hazel, who were his whole world; special friend Margaret; brother Raymond (Lee); brother-in-law Ken (Karen); sisters-in-law, Bette (Ben) and Bev (Dan) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 14 th , 2022 at 2:00 PM from Knox Presbyterian Church in Bassano. Rev. Ryan Thacker officiating. Interment followed at Bassano Cemetery.
