It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, Dad and Grandpa, Douglas Loren Burton, of Brooks, who passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Brooks Health Centre on Friday, July 11th, 2025, at the age of 69 years. Doug was born on November 18th, 1955, in Kindersley, Saskatchewan to Loren and Mary Burton. He resided in Coleville, Saskatchewan throughout his childhood, along with his 5 sisters and 1 brother. Days were spent playing hockey, tending to the family garden, and making grocery deliveries on his bicycle. Doug entered the workforce at a young age where he worked for service trucking companies and eventually pursued a career as an Oilfield Operator for Canso/Imperial Oil in the Kindersley region. He transferred to Brooks in 1991, bringing his family with him. Doug worked for Imperial Oil until 2004, when he established D.L. Burton Consulting Services. He worked for Wave Energy in and later for Crescent Point Energy in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, until his retirement in 2024. Doug's passion for the oilfield kept him in the industry for 54 years. His greatest joy in his life was the time spent, and memories made with his wife, children and grandchildren. Doug was predeceased by his father Loren Burton, and sisters Brenda (Rob) Schultz, Sandy (Herb) Schultz and Vivian Burton. He is survived by his wife of 38 year, Shannon Burton; sons, Dean and Eric Burton; daughters, Camille Warnke and Kristen (Brennan) Levie; mother, Mary Leeson; siblings, Wendy (Elmer) Schultz, Roberta (Bruce) Weber, and Kevin (Maurie) Burton; his cherished grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the teams at the Brooks Health Centre, Margaret E. Yuill Cancer Centre in Medicine Hat and the Arthur J.E. Child Cancer Centre in Calgary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23rd at 1:00 PM from the Heritage Inn and Convention Centre in Brooks. Rev. John Theiss officiating. In memory of Doug, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Brooks and District Health Foundation, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3.
