David Glen
Fruin
Oct 17, 1977 — Jan 2, 2026
Brooks
David Glen Fruin passed away on January 2nd, 2026 at the age of 48. He fit a lot of living into those years!
David was a good baby, lulling his parents, Darlene and Glen Fruin, into thinking this would continue.
Raised on the family farm near Yarbo, Saskatchewan, all David wanted to do was play outside, farm with his toys, hauling and lining up his acorn "bales". He took all his schooling in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan, although he wasn't forthcoming in reporting what occurred there. We suspect he was up to no good with his buddies. Dav id's interests included curling, 4-H beef club, and cars. Always a problem-solver, he had been known to convince his friends to join him riding horses to Gerald to buy pizza pops, and later, beer. David's love of vehicles started as a new driver, although no horse ever bucked him off as frequently as his various cars did.
After completing his instrumentation technician training in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, David started his "grown-up" adventures. Never one to settle too long in one place, he travelled and worked across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, working the full range of jobs from "on the tools" to management to business owner. David viewed work as a way to fund travel. Never a slave to possessions, David spent his earnings on traveling throughout the Americas------ Peru, Cuba, Mexico, Antigua, Grenada, to name a few.
In 2011 David met the love of his life, Maureen Clifford. Together with Maureen's children Amber and Madeline (Rachelle followed them later), they moved to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. For 7 years they lived in a beautiful location on the Lower River Inhabitants, canoeing, cooking seafood, collecting sea glass and sand dollars, exploring the Maritimes, and hosting all the family who liked to visit. David patiently hauled every rock Maureen chose for her garden, no matter the size. Throughout Maureen's lengthy cancer illness David was a patient, attentive caregiver. Sadly, Maureen passed away in December 2017. Fortunately, Amber and David took strength from each other and have remained as close as a daughter and dad could be.
David, or "Dave" as they called him, will be remembered by his work colleagues as someone who insisted on good work, was an unwilling but excellent supervisor, and never let co-workers forget an embarrassing mistake!
David is survived by his stepchildren Amber, Rachelle, and Madeline; his parents, Glen and Darlene Fruin; his brother Alan (Jacquie Fraser) Fruin; his sister Marilyn (Russell) Debnam; nieces Amber and Brynn; nephew Wade; and many extended family members.
David is survived by many friends, including special friends Kirk, Kelli, Rochelle, Cindy, and Gord to name but a few. David's friend network must have reduced the "friend of a friend" chain from six degrees of social connections down to three!
