It is with great sadness that the family of Darlene Ann Hanke announces her passing on August 12th, 2026, in Brooks, Alberta, at the age of 70 years, with her loving family by her side. Darlene was born on June 13th, 1956, in Lethbridge, Alberta. She attended school in Vauxhall, Alberta, before going on to obtain her Beautician's Licence in 1975. On August 20th, 1977, Darlene married the love of her life, Darrel Hanke, in Rolling Hills, Alberta, where they made their home and built their life together. Darlene was a strong and determined woman, who faced a long battle with illness with incredible courage and strength. Through the difficult times, her love for her family remained at the centre of her life. She treasured spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Darlene also had a creative spirit and enjoyed all kinds of crafting. She had a special love for her dogs, who brought her much companionship and happiness over the years. Darlene had a particular love for sunflowers, a fitting reflection of the warmth and brightness she brought to the lives of those around her. Like the flowers she loved so much, Darlene had a way of brightening a room simply by being in it. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Darrel Hanke; her father, Garnal Fraser; her brothers, Gerald Fraser, David Fraser, and Dean Fraser. Darlene will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Bertha Fraser; her daughters, Julie (Scott) Briggs and Joanne (Mike) Fahey; and her cherished grandchildren, Edwin, Cooper, Ember, Easton, and Eian. Darlene will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched. Her strength, creativity, warmth, and love for her family will remain in their hearts forever. Like a sunflower turning toward the light, Darlene always found a way to bring warmth and brightness to those she loved. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 20th at 1:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. John Theiss officiating. In memory of Darlene, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Brooks and District Health Foundation, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B3.
