It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Calvin Mathew Spencer, affectionately known as "Cal," who passed away on July 6, 2025, at the age of 77. Cal was born on May 18, 1948, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Alexander and Helen Spencer. He spent his early childhood on a float house in the beautiful coastal wilderness of Seymour Inlet and Port Hardy, surrounded by nature and the closeness of his parents and four siblings. Around the age of four or five, the family relocated to Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, where Cal continued to grow and attended school until the age of sixteen. In 1963, he moved to Regina to begin working for the City—launching a lifelong journey of hard work and dedication. One spontaneous evening changed everything for Cal: he jumped into a friend's convertible and, by fate, met the love of his life, Carol. That chance meeting turned into an unshakable bond built on shared values, humour, and adventure. The two were married in 1968 and created a remarkable life together rooted in love, laughter, and loyalty. Cal and Carol were blessed with two children, Don and Shannon, who inherited their father's grit, love for fast cars, and unwavering sense of responsibility. Family was Cal's pride and joy, and his greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his grandchildren—Cody, Dustin, Sydney, Karsyn, and Cole—and his precious great-granddaughter, Myrrahh. Though often seen as tough, with a famously gruff demeanor and deadpan humor, Cal was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him. Beneath the exterior was a man with a twinkle in his eye, a smirk that hinted at mischief, and a heart that was warm, loyal, and generous. His sense of humor, love of fishing, boats, fast cars, and time spent with good friends created the foundation for a life well-lived. Cal was predeceased by his brother Douglas Spencer and his sisters, Julia Matthews and Sandra DeBoeck. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol; son Don Spencer (Olivia); daughter Shannon Spencer (Jason); grandchildren Cody, Dustin, Sydney, Karsyn, and Cole; great-granddaughter Myrrahh; brother Ron Spencer (Susan) and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. To know Cal was to know strength, laughter, and the kind of quiet love that builds legacies. He will be remembered always—as a family man, a friend, and a one-of-a-kind presence that lives on in the hearts of all he touched. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 AM from Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
