It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernard "Ben" Joseph Koenning of Brooks, on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, at the Brooks Health Center in Brooks, Alberta, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 84 years. Ben was born on July 1st, 1941, and was raised on a farm near Cudworth, Saskatchewan. Those who knew Ben will forever cherish his old soul, stoic presence, grace, and humor. He loved spending quality time with loved ones, friends and family alike. Ben may have left the farm, but the farm never left him. He was a mechanic by trade, but he had a knack for fixing anything. Ben had a passion for fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was musical, loved to dance, and was a living example that silence was not emptiness. Ben is predeceased by his wife Ria; infant daughter Gina; parents John and Maria; brothers, John and Tony; sister, Irene and son-in-law Ken. he is survived by his children, Belinda, Laurie (Dan), Parnell, Clayton (Tammy) and Darla (Darrell); grandchildren; great grandchildren and siblings, Kay, Agnes, Ed (Casey), Theresa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben may no longer be with us, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Sunrise Gardens Unit #1, as well as the emergency staff, acute care nursing staff and Dr. Kits at the Brooks Health Center for their exceptional care of Ben. A private family service will be held. Interment to follow in Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Ben, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice.
