Barbara (Barbie) Irene Clyne of Medicine Hat, passed away in Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 7 th , 2017 at the age of 91 years. Irene was born December 22 nd , 1925, in Cardiff, Wales. Her mother Lily Church and father John Church moved to Countess, Alberta in the late 1920's. Barbie and her sister Margie would ride their ponies to attend Grade school, in the one roomed Clemenson School. Barbie later worked as a Nurses Aid, in Bassano. Barbie married John Clyne and farmed in Countess, just down the road from where she grew up. Barb and John later moved to Bearberry, Ab. and enjoyed the ranch life more than irrigating with a shovel in Countess. They had black Angus cross cattle and Barbie always said they were an Old man's cow because they pretty much looked after themselves, including calving, they hit the ground running! Barb and John met many friends while in Bearberry and became very close to the Jim Young and family. Barb and John moved to Olds in the late 1970's due to John's health. Barbie was the only care giver of John, and keep him at home, were he wanted to be, with numerous bouts in Hospital, she was a real trooper. After John's passing in 2007, Barbie managed the house for about a year, and then with no help, purchased a condo on the west side of Olds, not bad for a woman in her 80's! She later moved into the Sunrise Encore in Olds, then to Sunrise Gardens in Brooks and after 11 weeks Barbie moved to the Riverview in Medicine Hat. She was much more comfortable in the Riverview. Barbie had a way of touching people's lives even with her lack of eyesight and other health problems, (she told the staff she was born in the same year as the Queen 1925, so they nicknamed her the Queen of Riverview). Barbie was predeceased by her husband, John Clyne 2007, sister, Margarette Wallace 2003, brother-in-law, Will Wallace 2008, mother, Lily Church 1988, father, John Church 1960's, close family friend, Jack Wheeler (Ugin), and sister-in-law, Betty Marquette. Barbie is survived by a niece, Diane Wallace (Gary Chomin) and their children James Chomin and Natalie Chomin all of Vancouver B.C., nephew, Ron Wallace of Gem, and his children Alisen (Dave) Okell and their children Liam and Declan all of Brooks, Wade Wallace (Audrey) Wallace of Calgary, niece Colleen Wallace (Harold Slater) and niece Betty Marquette of Bassano. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 22 nd at 2:00 PM from The Bassano Elks Hall. Interment followed at Bassano Cemetery. In memory of Barbie, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of choice.
