Ada Lillian Wallace of Gleichen, Alberta passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, in Chestermere, surrounded by her family, after 91 well lived and loved years. Ada was born on January 8th, 1934, in Bassano, Alberta, and grew up in Gem, Alberta, where she formed many lifelong friendships and developed the strong values that shaped her life. Ada married the love of her life, Taylor Wallace, in 1953, and together they raised their family in Gem and later at the farm in Gleichen. Known for her hard work, independence, and spirited nature, Ada balanced life on the farm with a 20-year career as a guard at the Gleichen jail, where she built lasting friendships. She was deeply committed to her community, contributing five decades to writing the Gleichen news, volunteering with the Strathmore Hospital, and supporting the Gleichen History book in addition to local projects and events. Ada created a home filled with laughter, traditions, and unforgettable meals. She loved playing cards with friends, travel, capturing moments with her camera, and proudly following the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ada made friends easily, cherished visits over coffee, and remained fiercely independent throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, Sybil Wilson and John "Jack" Evans; sisters Ellen and Marg and brother Vic as well as multiple brothers and sisters-in law; her husband, Taylor Wallace; her son, Jack Wallace; and her granddaughter, Laura Schaffer. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Harold Evans; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Jerry Schaffer, and their family, Glenda (Jeff) Durupt and great-granddaughter Katelyn; Allan (Melody) Schaffer and great-grandson Enzo. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Shelley Wallace (Rick Ratcliff) and family; Darryl (Emma) Wallace; David (Cara) Wallace and great-granddaughters Kezia and Brooklyn; Rochelle (Graham) Makuk and great-granddaughters Emilia and Abigail. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28th at 2:00 PM from the Knox Presbyterian Church in Bassano. Rev. Peter Baek officiating. In memory of Ada, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2300 – Yonge Street Suite 1200, Box 2414, Toronto, Ontario   M4P 1E4 or Cystic Fibrosis Canada, 20 Elinton Avenue West, Suite 1305, Toronto, Ontario   M4R 1K8 or Wheatland and Area Hospice Society, Box 21544 Strathmore, Alberta   T1P 1K2.  Though she will be deeply missed, Ada leaves behind a rich legacy of love, resilience, humour, and community spirit. Her family takes comfort in imagining her reunited with loved ones—likely already settled at a card table, a jar of nickels close at hand.
